Major Highway Accident Near Kanpur Leaves 14 Injured in Chain Collision
A severe road accident involving multiple vehicles resulted in at least 14 persons sustaining injuries on the Kanpur-Sagar highway late on Sunday evening. The incident occurred near the Shambhuha bridge in the Bidhnu area, creating a chaotic scene that required immediate police and community intervention.
Sequence of the Collision
The accident began with a head-on collision between a private bus and a truck. The situation escalated dramatically when a dumper, unable to stop in time, rammed into the bus from behind. This secondary impact caused both the bus and the dumper to lose control, overturning into a roadside ditch. The force of the collisions left the vehicles severely damaged and passengers trapped inside.
Emergency Response and Rescue Operations
Upon receiving alerts, police teams from Bidhnu and Sen Paschim Para stations rushed to the accident site. Station House Officer Tej Bahadur Singh described the challenging rescue efforts, noting that police personnel, with assistance from passersby, had to break the windows of the overturned bus to extricate those trapped. All injured individuals were promptly shifted to the community health centre (CHC) in Bidhnu for initial medical attention.
Medical Treatment and Hospital Referrals
After primary treatment at the CHC, nine critically injured persons were referred to the district hospital in Kanpur for advanced care. Some of the victims opted to seek treatment at private hospitals independently. The community health centre managed the remaining cases, ensuring all received necessary medical support following the traumatic event.
Investigation Underway
Assistant Commissioner of Police Krishnakant Yadav confirmed that the exact cause of the accident is currently under investigation. Authorities are examining factors such as vehicle speed, road conditions, and driver error. Further legal action will be determined based on the formal complaint received and the findings of the ongoing probe. The police have assured that all aspects of the incident are being thoroughly reviewed to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
