Major Setback for Maoists as 15 Cadres Surrender in Chhattisgarh
In a significant development for security forces in Chhattisgarh, fifteen Maoists formally surrendered before authorities in the Sukma district of Bastar division on Monday. This event marks a substantial blow to the outlawed CPI (Maoist) organization, which has been struggling to maintain its influence in the region.
Details of the Surrendered Cadres
The group of individuals who laid down their arms was not ordinary. Collectively, they were carrying cash rewards totalling a staggering Rs 48 lakh on their heads, indicating their significant roles within the Maoist hierarchy. Among the fifteen were five women, highlighting the diverse composition of the cadre. Providing crucial details, Sukma SP Kiran Chavan confirmed that the surrendered group includes four hardcore Maoists, whose departure from the ranks is a particularly heavy loss for the insurgent group.
Growing Disillusionment Within Maoist Ranks
Official sources point to this surrender as clear evidence of a growing disillusionment spreading through the Maoist ranks. This sentiment is reported to be especially strong among members who are assigned to high-risk combat roles, facing constant pressure from security operations. The decision of these fifteen individuals, including seasoned members, to choose a path of peace reflects a critical internal challenge for the CPI (Maoist) in south Chhattisgarh. This event is seen as a continuation of the setbacks the group has been facing in the region.
