In a brazen overnight theft, unidentified criminals broke into a rural bank branch in Chandrapur district, making off with a significant haul of gold and cash. The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community and prompted a major police investigation.

Discovery of the Theft

The robbery at the Maharashtra Gramin Bank branch in Mohadi (Mokasa), Nagbhid taluka, was discovered on Monday morning when staff returned to work after the weekend closure. Upon opening, they found that the premises had been breached and valuables were missing.

Acting swiftly, Branch Manager Mohsin Sheikh filed a formal complaint with the Nagbhid police station, setting the legal process in motion. According to initial reports from bank officials, the branch had been securely locked by Assistant Manager Kariksha Dhakate at around 6:30 PM on Friday before the two-day closure.

Details of the Stolen Items

The thieves successfully escaped with a substantial cache of valuables. The stolen items include:

  • Gold ornaments weighing approximately 170 grams.
  • Cash amounting to ₹3,66,000 (₹3.66 lakh).

The total value of the stolen goods represents a significant loss for the bank and its customers.

Police Investigation Launched

Law enforcement agencies have initiated a comprehensive probe into the burglary. Multiple police teams immediately conducted a spot inspection of the bank to gather initial clues and assess the modus operandi.

To aid the investigation with scientific evidence, a forensic squad was summoned to the scene. Experts are meticulously examining the premises for fingerprints, footprints, tool marks, or any other physical evidence that could lead to the identification of the perpetrators.

The case is being investigated by Assistant Sub-Inspector Kishor Vairagade. The probe is being conducted under the direct supervision of Sub-Divisional Police Officer DD Rajput and Police Inspector Ramakant Kokote, indicating the seriousness with which authorities are treating the case. A search operation has also been launched in the surrounding areas to nab the culprits.
