Tension flared in Kushinagar district on Wednesday after a 25-year-old man was brutally stabbed to death, allegedly stemming from an old personal rivalry. The incident in Gobarahi village led to public unrest, a road blockade, and required significant police intervention to control the situation.
Details of the Fatal Attack
The victim, identified as Nishant Singh, a resident of Amarpur in Kasya, was attacked around 12:30 pm on Wednesday. According to police reports, Singh was riding his motorcycle towards Kasya when the accused, Naushad Ansari of Jurdwania village, stopped him near his own village.
In a sudden assault, Ansari allegedly stabbed Nishant Singh in the abdomen before fleeing the scene. Hearing the victim's cries for help, local residents rushed to the spot. They immediately took the critically injured man to the Kasya community health centre. Due to the severity of his wounds, he was referred to the district hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
Old Enmity Triggered the Violence
Preliminary police investigations point to a long-standing personal rivalry between the two men as the motive behind the killing. The enmity is reported to have originated from a dispute that took place approximately a year ago during a function in Naikachhapra.
"Preliminary investigation points to personal rivalry. All aspects are being probed, and strict action will be taken against those involved," stated ASP Siddharth Verma, assuring that the police were on top of the case.
Unrest and Swift Police Action
The murder triggered immediate tension and protests in the area, exacerbated by the fact that the accused belongs to a different community. Angry villagers blocked the Hetimpur–Gobarahi road at the Naikachhapra crossing, disrupting traffic. The protestors later attempted to march towards the accused's village, raising concerns of further escalation.
Authorities responded with a heavy police deployment to the site. Their intervention successfully prevented the mob from targeting the accused's house and brought the volatile situation under control. In a swift follow-up action, the police arrested the main accused, Naushad Ansari, on Wednesday late evening. Additionally, three other individuals were detained for questioning in connection with the case.
ASP Verma confirmed that the situation in Gobarahi village is now under control, but police forces remain deployed in the area to maintain peace and order as the investigation continues.
