The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday seized 3 kilograms of gold from the residence of a close associate of a Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader in West Bengal, as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged corruption.
Details of the Raid
According to officials, the raid was conducted at the home of the associate in a suburban area of Kolkata. The gold, valued at approximately ₹1.5 crore, was found concealed in a hidden compartment. The ED is probing links to illegal mining and extortion activities.
“The seizure is part of a broader investigation into financial irregularities linked to the TMC leader,” an ED official stated, requesting anonymity. The associate is being questioned.
Political Reactions
The TMC dismissed the raid as politically motivated. “This is a witch-hunt by the central government ahead of elections,” said a party spokesperson. The BJP, however, welcomed the action, calling it a step against corruption.
The investigation is ongoing, with authorities examining financial documents and digital evidence seized during the raid.
