A devastating chain-reaction crash on a Kushinagar highway claimed three lives and left six others with serious injuries on Wednesday afternoon. The tragedy unfolded in Pakwa Inar town when a speeding trailer overturned, triggering a multi-vehicle pile-up.
How the Kushinagar Highway Accident Unfolded
According to eyewitness accounts, the sequence of events began when the driver of a trailer, travelling from Tamkuhiraj to Gorakhpur, took a sharp evasive manoeuvre. He swerved to avoid hitting an elderly man who was crossing the road. This action caused the heavy vehicle to smash through the road divider and land in the opposite lane.
In its path was another trailer coming from the opposite direction. The out-of-control trailer rammed into it and overturned completely, blocking the highway. The chaos did not end there. A tractor, an e-rickshaw carrying seven passengers, and a motorcycle that were following behind could not stop in time and crashed into the overturned trailer. The impact was severe, scattering injured passengers across the road.
Rescue Operations and Fatalities
Panic spread immediately as local residents rushed to the spot to help the victims. Police and five units of the 108 ambulance service were dispatched to the accident site. All nine injured persons were shifted to the Kasya Community Health Centre (CHC) for urgent medical attention.
Doctors at the CHC declared one young man dead on arrival. Given the critical nature of injuries, seven of the most severely hurt victims were referred to Padrauna Medical College for advanced treatment. Tragically, two more passengers from the e-rickshaw succumbed to their injuries at the medical college during treatment.
Dr. Markandey Chaturvedi, in charge of Kasya CHC, provided a grim summary, confirming that one victim was brought dead, another died en route to the district hospital, and a third passed away at the medical college.
Victims of the Pakwa Inar Collision
The deceased have been identified as Keshav Rajbhar (21) from Sahodar Patti village in Deoria, and Ramvilas (58) of Kushinagar. The identity of the third victim is yet to be established.
The list of the injured includes Ajay Singh (46), Chandan Kumar (25), Shiv Kumari (42), Lakshmi (16), Kajal Singh (16), and another person whose name is not known. Medical reports indicate that most of the survivors suffered severe injuries to the head and legs. A motorcycle rider involved in the crash continues to receive treatment at the Kasya facility.
This horrific incident has once again highlighted the perils on Indian highways, where a single moment's decision can lead to catastrophic consequences. The investigation into the exact causes is ongoing.
