Major Security Bust in Delhi-NCR: 350 kg Explosives Recovered from Doctor's Home

In a significant counter-terrorism operation that has sent shockwaves through the security establishment, a joint team of Jammu & Kashmir and Faridabad police recovered a massive cache of explosives and weapons from a rented accommodation in Faridabad's Dhauj village, leading to the arrest of a doctor from Pulwama.

The Raid and Recovery

The coordinated operation on Sunday resulted in the seizure of 350 kilograms of explosives, identified as ammonium nitrate, along with an AK-47 rifle, a pistol, three magazines, 20 timers, a walkie-talkie set, and ammunition. The recovery was made from the residence of Dr. Mujammil Shakeel (also identified as Mujahil Shakil or Muzammil Shakeel), who works at Al-Falah Hospital in Faridabad and had rented the Dhauj house approximately three months ago.

Faridabad Police Commissioner Satender Kumar Gupta clarified during a Monday press conference that the seized material was ammonium nitrate, dispelling earlier media reports that had suggested it was RDX. The operation was conducted with the participation of both J&K Police and Faridabad Police personnel.

The Arrests and Investigation

The breakthrough came following the arrest of another Kashmiri doctor, Dr. Adil Ahmad Rather, who was tracked down to Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh. Rather was apprehended for allegedly pasting posters supporting the banned terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed in Srinagar on October 27.

During interrogation, Rather provided information that led investigators to Dr. Shakeel. In a previous development, the J&K police had searched Rather's locker at the Government Medical College in Anantnag, where he had worked as a senior resident until October last year, recovering another AK-47 rifle and ammunition.

Dr. Adil Ahmad Rather has been booked under the Arms Act and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, while the investigation continues to determine the intended target of the explosives and how such a large quantity was transported undetected to a location in close proximity to the national capital.

Ongoing Probe and Security Implications

Security agencies are particularly concerned about the proximity of the explosives to Delhi and the sophisticated nature of the recovered materials, including timers that could be used for creating improvised explosive devices. The police are investigating possible terror links and the network behind the stockpiling of such a significant quantity of explosives.

This development comes as a serious security alert for the Delhi-NCR region, with authorities working to trace the source of the explosives and identify any other individuals involved in what appears to be a well-organized operation. The case remains under active investigation as security forces work to unravel the complete conspiracy.
