A chaotic scene unfolded in Patna's Danapur area on Wednesday after a speeding Mahindra Thar SUV lost control and plowed into multiple vehicles parked by the roadside, leaving four people injured. The incident, which occurred near the Gola Road T-point, triggered public outrage, leading locals to set the offending vehicle on fire.
Chaos at Gola Road T-point: Sequence of Events
According to police officials, the dramatic chain of events began when the Thar SUV, for reasons still under investigation, veered out of control. The vehicle slammed into several two-wheelers and cycles parked near the busy T-point. The impact resulted in injuries to four individuals, one of whom is a woman. All the injured victims were promptly rushed to a nearby hospital for medical treatment following the accident.
Public Fury and Police Investigation
Enraged by the incident, locals at the spot reacted strongly and set the Thar SUV ablaze. Fire brigade teams were called to the scene and managed to douse the flames, preventing further damage. Danapur Station House Officer (SHO) Prashant Kumar Bhardwaj provided details of the aftermath to the media.
"A Thar hit a few vehicles on the roadside near Gola Road T-point, in which four people got injured, including one woman. All four injured individuals have been sent to the hospital for treatment," SHO Bhardwaj stated. He confirmed that two motorcycles and two bicycles were recovered from the site in a damaged condition.
Identity of Driver Remains a Mystery
A key challenge for the police is identifying the driver who fled the scene. The intense fire that engulfed the SUV destroyed its registration plate, complicating immediate identification efforts. However, investigators are pursuing other leads.
"The driver of the Thar has not yet been identified. The license plate was destroyed in the fire. The vehicle owner is being identified based on the engine number," added SHO Bhardwaj. Police are also examining CCTV footage from the vicinity to gather further information about the vehicle's movement and the circumstances leading to the accident.
The incident has once again highlighted concerns over road safety and public reaction to accidents in urban areas. The investigation by Danapur police is ongoing.
