The trouble began with a heated exchange in a WhatsApp group where students were actively participating in discussions. According to the victim, a Jammu student currently enrolled at the engineering college, the online argument escalated when several students confronted him directly the previous day. During this confrontation, the student reported receiving explicit threats that prompted him to immediately leave the hostel premises for his safety.
The student demonstrated presence of mind by informing both the hostel security guard and a concerned professor about the threatening altercation. However, these precautionary measures couldn't prevent the subsequent violent attack that would unfold hours later.
Masked Mob Targets Wrong Victim
On Tuesday night, the situation took a dangerous turn when approximately 40 individuals with their faces covered entered the hostel building. The mob specifically targeted the Jammu student's room, but in a case of mistaken identity, they assaulted his roommate instead.
The attackers allegedly beat the roommate while he was sleeping, apparently confusing him with the original target of their wrath. The injured student, who also hails from Jammu, required immediate medical attention and was promptly taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
