Five Arrested Following Tragic Death at Dimapur Rehabilitation Centre
Dimapur police have made five arrests in connection with the shocking death of a person at a rehabilitation facility in Chumoukedima district. The incident occurred on November 26, according to an official release from the Dimapur commissionerate of police.
Details of the Arrests and Police Action
Among those taken into custody are four individuals directly involved in the incident, alongside the owner of the rehabilitation centre. All accused are currently held in police custody as the investigation progresses.
Acting on its own initiative, the Dimapur police registered a First Information Report (FIR) at the Diphuphar police station against the Yeshu Arms Wellness Foundation, located in Chekiye village, Block-6. A detailed probe was immediately launched into the matter.
Sequence of Events and Victim Identification
The police narrative states that around 3 PM on November 26, the Diphuphar Police Station received an urgent call from the Referral Hospital. The call concerned a dead body that had been brought from the rehabilitation centre. A police team rushed to the hospital, where the duty doctor confirmed that the individual was brought dead.
The deceased has been identified as Pradeep Basumatary (46), son of Lombuthor Basumatary. He was a resident of Uriamghat in the Golaghat district of Assam.
Evidence of Assault and Ongoing Investigation
A preliminary examination of the body revealed visible marks of physical assault, painting a grim picture of his final moments. The evidence included:
- Multiple bruises on both lower limbs and buttocks
- Injuries on the legs
- An injury on the left cheek
- An injury on the left hand
Based on the nature of the wounds, police suspect they were inflicted by blunt objects. This led investigators to the preliminary conclusion that the victim was physically assaulted, which resulted in his death.
To determine the precise cause of death, the body has been moved to the Dimapur district hospital for a post-mortem examination.
