Stepfather Receives Historic 78-Year Sentence for Heinous Crimes
In a landmark judgment that reinforces India's commitment to protecting children, a Fast Track Court in Thiruvananthapuram has delivered a powerful message against sexual violence. Judge Anchu Meera Birla sentenced a 41-year-old man to 78 years of rigorous imprisonment for repeatedly sexually assaulting his 13-year-old stepdaughter.
The court also imposed a substantial fine of Rs 4.75 lakh on the convict, with a stern warning that failure to pay would result in an additional 4.5 years of imprisonment. In a significant move toward survivor justice, the judge directed authorities to ensure the fine amount reaches the survivor, while also ordering the Legal Services Authority to provide adequate compensation to help her rebuild her life.

The disturbing case came to light in 2023 when the survivor's younger brother, who had witnessed the assaults, bravely confided in their mother. According to police investigations, the accused had not only committed these horrific acts but had also threatened the young girl to remain silent about the ongoing abuse.
When the mother confronted her husband about the allegations, the situation escalated dangerously. The man allegedly attacked her, prompting her to file an official police complaint. The Fort police acted swiftly, arresting the accused and ensuring the safety of the family.
