An eight-year-old boy was killed after he fell off a motorcycle and was run over by a speeding truck near Lakker Depot in the Barotiwala industrial area on Sunday. The incident occurred when the child was riding pillion with his father and younger brother.
Details of the Accident
According to police, Rajesh Kumar was returning to Baddi from Haripur on a motorcycle with his two sons, Vinayak (8) and Naitik (5). As they reached the bridge near Lakker Depot, a vehicle coming from behind reportedly overtook their motorcycle at high speed, causing it to lose balance. All three fell onto the road.
Vinayak, who was seated at the back, landed on the roadway and was immediately run over by a speeding truck coming from Baddi. He died on the spot. Police arrived at the scene after receiving information and began an investigation.
Victim and Family Background
The deceased, Vinayak, was a resident of Gopalganj district in Bihar. His father, Rajesh Kumar, is employed at Auro Spinning Company in Baddi. The family had been living in the area for work.
Police have sent the body for post-mortem examination. The cause of the accident is under investigation, and CCTV footage from the area is being reviewed to determine the exact sequence of events.
Police Action and Investigation
Additional SP Ashok Verma said a case has been registered against the truck driver under relevant sections. The body will be handed over to the family after post-mortem, and further investigation is under way.
Authorities are examining whether the truck driver was speeding or negligent. The motorcycle rider, Rajesh Kumar, is also being questioned to ascertain if any traffic violations occurred.

The accident highlights ongoing road safety issues in the Barotiwala industrial area, where heavy truck traffic is common. Local residents have previously raised concerns about speeding vehicles and inadequate safety measures on the narrow bridge near Lakker Depot.
Police have urged all motorists to exercise caution, especially when carrying children on two-wheelers. Helmets for all riders and adherence to speed limits are mandatory under Indian traffic laws.
