Lakshmi, a 50-year-old woman from Palavedu, was hired by 71-year-old Sukumar, a resident of Pillaiyar Koil Street in Tambaram. Sukumar, living alone after his wife's passing, sought household assistance and employed Lakshmi on November 14 through a popular online domestic staffing application. Her duties included cooking and general home assistance.
The arrangement took a suspicious turn when Lakshmi abruptly stopped reporting for work after December 15. She subsequently became unreachable, ignoring all phone calls from her employer. It was then that Sukumar conducted a thorough check of his home and made a distressing discovery: 13 sovereigns of gold jewellery and 50,000 rupees in cash were missing.
The Aadhaar Link and Arrest
Sukumar promptly filed a complaint with the Tambaram police. The investigation gained a crucial lead from the Aadhaar card details that Lakshmi had submitted during her employment verification. Police authorities utilized this unique identification data to locate the suspect.
Following the trail, law enforcement officials successfully apprehended Lakshmi, who has been described as a habitual offender. In a significant recovery, the police managed to retrieve all the stolen gold ornaments from her possession. The arrest was officially confirmed by the police on Thursday.
