Abducted Haridwar infant rescued in Etawah, three held

Haridwar: A five-month-old girl abducted from the Har Ki Pauri area in Haridwar district of Uttarakhand on May 27 was rescued from Uttar Pradesh's Etawah district on Friday. Three people, including a quack, were arrested in connection with the case, police said.

Details of the Abduction

Police claimed that the abduction was orchestrated by Satyapal, a quack from Laksar in Haridwar district, who had instructed his associates to abduct a male child for a family in Bijnor that had five daughters. However, the accused mistakenly abducted the daughter of a Sambhal-based couple who had come to Haridwar to take a holy dip in the Ganga.

Arrests and Rescue

The infant was allegedly abducted by Preeti, a resident of Dhampur, and her husband, Lal Bahadur. Following an investigation, police traced the child to Etawah and rescued her safely. Three accused, including Satyapal, have been arrested and booked in the case.

SSP Navneet Singh told TOI, “CCTV footage showed the accused couple carrying the abducted baby girl to Laksar railway station. Based on the evidence, we traced and arrested Satyapal from Brahmpuri. The child was subsequently located and rescued from Etawah.” Police said Deepak, Preeti’s brother and resident of Bijnor, had allegedly accepted token money from the family in exchange for arranging a baby boy. He remains absconding. Investigators are also examining the role of the Bijnor family. The rescued infant was later reunited with her parents.
