Decomposed Body of Abducted Realtor Found in Ganjam Forest, Police Suspect Foul Play

In a chilling development, police on Wednesday recovered the decomposed body of a realtor who was allegedly abducted earlier this month. The grim discovery was made in the forest area near Gajalabadi, under the jurisdiction of the Sorada police station in Ganjam district, Odisha.

Victim Identified as Sudhir Patra

The deceased has been identified as Sudhir Patra, a 47-year-old resident of Satyanarayanapur near Gopalpur. According to police reports, Patra was abducted on the night of April 15. Family members informed authorities that an anonymous caller demanded a staggering ransom of Rs 2 crore for his safe release. Since that fateful night, there had been no further contact from either Patra or the kidnappers, leaving his loved ones in anguish.

Forensic Examination and Identification

Subhransu Parida, the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Berhampur Sadar, detailed the recovery process. "We rushed to the spot along with family members of the deceased and a forensic team. Though the body was beyond recognition, his family identified him from the garments he wore at the time of abduction," Parida stated. Due to the advanced state of decomposition, the body could not be transported to MKCG Medical College for a post-mortem. Consequently, the autopsy was conducted on-site, after which the remains were handed over to the family for last rites.

Police Suspect Murder and Evidence Destruction

Authorities suspect that the abductors may have killed Patra on the very night of his abduction, April 15, and subsequently dumped his body in the remote forest area to destroy evidence. "Earlier, we registered an abduction case and searched for him with multiple teams. Now, we have registered a case of abduction and murder," the SDPO confirmed. An FIR was lodged by the victim's wife, Rashmi Rekha Patra, initiating the formal investigation.

Ongoing Investigation and Possible Motives

The exact reason behind this heinous crime remains unclear, but police are exploring multiple angles. "We are investigating from various possible angles, including business rivalry and past enmity. We have established some clues in this sensational case and the people involved in the incident would be arrested soon," Parida assured. The case has sent shockwaves through the local community, with authorities intensifying efforts to unravel the mystery and bring the perpetrators to justice.

This incident underscores the grave risks faced by individuals in high-stakes professions and highlights the urgent need for enhanced security measures in vulnerable areas. As the investigation progresses, police are committed to delivering answers and ensuring accountability for this tragic loss of life.
