In a tragic incident in Madhya Pradesh's Morena district, at least four passengers lost their lives after jumping off the Khajuraho-Udaipur Intercity Express following a rumour of a fire aboard the train. They were subsequently run over by the passing Patalkot Express, officials confirmed on Sunday.
Details of the Incident
The accident occurred around 4:15 pm between the Hetampur and Dholpur section of the Jhansi Railway Division, according to news agency PTI. Panic erupted among passengers after reports of a fire spread inside the train. Following a chain-pulling incident, several passengers hastily disembarked onto the tracks.
Manoj Singh, Public Relations Officer of North Central Railway's Jhansi division, stated, "The passengers deboarded the train after panic spread over reports of a fire in the Khajuraho-Udaipur Intercity Express."
Fatal Collision
At the same time, the Patalkot Express was passing on an adjacent track. The four passengers who had alighted from the train allegedly failed to notice the approaching train and were run over. All four died on the spot, officials said.
The incident triggered panic among other passengers. Railway authorities and police rushed to the scene after being alerted and initiated further proceedings.
