Abohar Woman Allegedly Raped and Held Captive for 10 Days in Rajasthan

A shocking case has emerged from Abohar, where a 23-year-old woman was allegedly raped and held captive for approximately 10 days after being taken to Rajasthan by an acquaintance under false pretenses. The accused, identified as Mangal Singh, reportedly knew the survivor and lured her with the promise of work on March 23, leading to a harrowing ordeal that spanned multiple cities.

Details of the Alleged Abduction and Assault

The survivor recounted that Mangal Singh confiscated her mobile phone immediately to prevent any contact with her family, effectively isolating her. She was transported across several locations, including Sri Ganganagar, Jaipur, Bikaner, and Haridwar, before being confined in a house in Sri Ganganagar. During this period, she was allegedly subjected to repeated sexual assaults, and the accused also took away her gold jewellery, adding to her trauma.

Escape and Police Involvement

In a desperate bid for freedom, the woman managed to access the accused's phone and contacted her husband, revealing her dire situation. Upon learning of her plight, her husband, brother-in-law, and father-in-law rushed to Rajasthan to rescue her. However, before they could reach her, Mangal Singh abandoned the woman in Sri Ganganagar and fled the scene. Subsequently, she was brought back to safety and admitted to a hospital for a mandatory medical examination following the filing of a police complaint.

Criticism of Police Response

The survivor's husband has voiced strong criticism against the police, claiming that he had previously filed a missing person's complaint but received no timely action. This alleged negligence has raised serious concerns about law enforcement's responsiveness in such critical cases. The family has now lodged a fresh complaint with the police, seeking justice and accountability for the delayed response.

This incident highlights ongoing issues related to women's safety and the effectiveness of police protocols in handling abduction and assault cases, prompting calls for stricter measures and quicker interventions to protect vulnerable individuals.
