The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has alleged a 'cash-for-pass' racket at Vijayanagara Sri Krishnadevaraya University (VSKU) in Ballari. According to the student organisation, students who have failed their examinations are being allowed to pass after paying approximately Rs 6,000 per subject.
Protest and Memorandum
The ABVP, which is protesting outside the university, submitted a memorandum to university authorities on Thursday, seeking a thorough investigation into the allegations. ABVP district convener K Dileep alleged that several students have managed to secure a pass percentage by paying the demanded amount.
Previous Scam and Staff Involvement
The student body claimed that these allegations surfaced close on the heels of a fake convocation certificate scam. They accused university staff of manipulating examination results in exchange for money. The ABVP named staff members Riyaz, Venkatesh Vanadurg, Yallalinga, Chandramohan, and Umesh, alleging their involvement in the racket. The organisation also claimed to possess an audio recording in which some staff members allegedly demand money from students.
Ongoing Irregularities
The ABVP further alleged that examination section officials continue to assign exam duties to those accused of irregularities, despite the serious nature of the accusations. The practice is said to have continued for several years, raising concerns about the integrity of the examination process at the university.
University Response
Responding to the allegations, Vice-Chancellor M Muniraju stated that a comprehensive inquiry would be conducted. He assured students that there was no need for concern and that the university would take appropriate action based on the findings of the investigation.
