Woman Endures Severe Burns in Shocking Acid Attack at Gurgaon Hospital
In a horrifying incident that has sent shockwaves through the community, a woman suffered more than 25% burn injuries after a man allegedly threw acid on her inside the casualty ward of Civil Hospital in Sector 10, Gurgaon, on Sunday evening. The attack occurred around 8:30 PM, leaving the victim with severe burns on her face, neck, and hand, as confirmed by medical professionals.
Details of the Disturbing Assault
According to hospital officials, the victim, identified as Samoli Das, aged 32, had arrived at the hospital accompanied by the accused. She entered the casualty ward and was about to consult doctors when the man suddenly launched the vicious attack. Emergency head Dr. Om Parkash stated, "Before she could even mention what she wanted to get checked, the man threw acid on her and fled. No one could immediately understand what happened."
Hospital staffers rushed to provide assistance, administering initial treatment to the woman. Following an examination that revealed the extent of her injuries, she was referred to PGI Rohtak for specialized care due to the severity of the burns covering more than a quarter of her body.
Police Investigation and Victim's Background
Officers from the Sector 10 police station promptly arrived at the hospital to initiate an investigation. Police revealed that the woman, originally from Nuh, had come to visit a relative's house in Subhash Nagar, Gurgaon. She had sought medical attention at the hospital following a prior assault. A police officer noted, "Since the statement of the victim has not been recorded, a case is yet to be registered." Fortunately, no other individuals were injured during this traumatic event.
Hospital Response and Security Concerns
Gurgaon chief medical officer Lokveer Singh confirmed that the hospital administration has informed the police and is fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation. Singh assured, "We will hand over CCTV footage to the police." However, this incident has sparked serious questions about security measures at the facility.
While guards are stationed at the entrance, visitors and attendants typically undergo no checks, allowing people to enter the premises without screening of bags or belongings. This lapse is particularly alarming given that Gurgaon relies heavily on Civil Hospital as its primary public healthcare institution, which sees an average of 2,000 patients daily in its outpatient department.
Broader Implications and Community Impact
The acid attack inside a hospital casualty ward highlights critical vulnerabilities in public safety protocols. It underscores the urgent need for enhanced security screenings and vigilance in healthcare settings to prevent such heinous acts. The community is left grappling with concerns over personal safety and the adequacy of protective measures in essential services.
As authorities continue their probe, this case serves as a stark reminder of the persistent threats faced by individuals, especially women, and the imperative for robust preventive actions in public spaces.
