Agartala: A local court in Agartala on Tuesday remanded four individuals, including a Bangladeshi national, to three-day police custody in connection with a kidnapping and ransom case. The accused have been identified as Rabil Miah, Iqbal Hossain, Jakir Hossain, and Nishab Miah. Police said Nishab Miah is a Bangladeshi citizen and has been separately charged for unlawfully entering India. The four have been charged under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) related to abduction, conspiracy, and threats.
Details of the Incident
The case relates to the alleged abduction of a person from the Office Lane area of the city two days ago by an unknown gang. The victim was later released. Police said the abductors demanded a ransom and issued threats during the captivity. The abduction reportedly took place outside the busy court complex area.
Investigation Progress
Investigators said preliminary findings indicate the involvement of around six to seven people, who allegedly used a car and a two-wheeler. Police have confiscated the two-wheeler and are actively searching for the car. Efforts are ongoing to trace the remaining suspects.
Police are also investigating the role of the Bangladeshi national, Nishab Miah, who is accused of entering India illegally. Authorities are coordinating with relevant agencies to verify his background and possible links to cross-border criminal networks.
The court's decision to remand the accused in police custody will allow investigators to interrogate them further and gather more evidence. The case has raised concerns about security in the area, and police have assured the public that they are taking all necessary steps to ensure safety.
