Agra Man Held for Allegedly Killing 15-Day-Old Daughter While Intoxicated

Police in Agra have arrested a 30-year-old man for allegedly killing his 15-day-old daughter. The tragic incident occurred in Aligarh's Civil Lines area. Officials reported the arrest on Friday.

Dispute Over Drug Use Leads to Tragedy

The incident happened on Thursday night. The child's mother, Rani, who is 25 years old, objected to her husband Mukarim consuming drugs. This argument triggered the violent episode.

Enraged by his wife's objections, Mukarim allegedly picked up the newborn around 9 pm. He then slammed the infant to the ground. Rani initially believed her baby was still breathing. She laid the child down carefully.

Mother Discovers Infant's Death Hours Later

The infant showed no movement until around 2 am. Rani checked again at that time and found her daughter dead. Even after this horrific act, the accused remained intoxicated. He slept through the night unaware of the consequences.

In the morning, Rani informed her neighbours about the tragedy. The neighbours immediately alerted the police. Officers quickly responded to the distress call.

Police Investigation and Legal Proceedings

ASP Mayank Pathak provided details about the police response. He said police received information about the death near Kathpula Bridge. Officers reached the spot immediately.

The infant's body was sent for post-mortem examination. Mukarim was taken to the police station for questioning. A neighbour named Laeek Ahmed said Rani told him her husband killed the child. This prompted him to inform the authorities.

ASP Pathak noted that no visible injury marks were found on the infant's body. Further legal proceedings are now underway. Police will take action based on the post-mortem report findings.

This case highlights the devastating impact of substance abuse on families. It also underscores the importance of community vigilance in reporting such crimes.
