Agra School Bus Tragedy: Driver Arrested, Officials Suspended After Student's Death
The driver of a school bus involved in the tragic death of a nine-year-old Class 1 student in Agra has been arrested from Firozabad on Friday. The incident, which occurred earlier this week, has led to significant repercussions including the suspension of four transport department officials for gross negligence.
Details of the Tragic Incident
Naina Singh, a student at a private school in Agra, fell through a damaged portion of the moving bus floor after a sudden jolt on Wednesday. The young girl was subsequently run over by the rear wheel of the vehicle. She was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared her dead upon arrival.
The driver, identified as Narendra Singh, had been absconding since the incident. Police tracked him down to Firozabad, where he was taken into custody. The bus involved in the fatal accident has already been seized by authorities as part of the ongoing investigation.
Legal Action and Official Response
Etmadpur ACP Devesh Singh confirmed that an FIR was registered based on a complaint filed by the girl's family. The case has been filed under sections 106(1) (causing death by negligence) and 105 (punishment for culpable homicide) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
In a swift administrative response, Transport Commissioner Kinjal Singh ordered the suspension of four transport department officials:
- Neelam
- Amit Verma
- Sharda Mishra
- Shiv Kumar Mishra
The suspensions were issued citing gross negligence and laxity in the discharge of their duties. Sources within the department revealed that a comprehensive departmental inquiry has also been initiated.
Ongoing Investigation and Additional Developments
Deputy Transport Commissioner (Passenger Tax) Sanjay Singh has been appointed as the inquiry officer for the departmental investigation. He has been directed to submit a detailed report within one month, examining all aspects of the incident and the officials' conduct.
Police officials disclosed that the FIR, lodged at Etmadpur police station by the girl's father, also names the school manager, Raj Bahadur, who remains absconding. Authorities are actively searching for his whereabouts as the investigation continues to unfold.
This tragic incident has highlighted serious concerns about vehicle safety standards and regulatory oversight in school transportation systems. The community remains in mourning as authorities work to ensure accountability and prevent similar tragedies in the future.
