The Ahmedabad Crime Branch has apprehended three individuals in connection with the robbery of a radio cab driver, who was lured through a ride-hailing application and subsequently robbed at knifepoint in a secluded location. The incident occurred on Monday when four individuals booked a cab through the app from a vegetable market near Makarba. The accused directed the driver toward Zundal Circle and into an isolated area, where they robbed him of his vehicle, mobile phone, and cash before fleeing. The case was initially registered as an undetected robbery at the Anandnagar police station.
Arrests and Recovery
Acting on intelligence inputs, officers from the Crime Branch intercepted three of the suspects near the Pirana farm road, off the Vishala Bridge-Somnath Mahadev route. Police recovered items worth approximately Rs 8.75 lakh from their possession, including five mobile phones, a silver chain, a Bluetooth device, the stolen car, an autorickshaw, and a knife. The arrested individuals have been identified as Moinkhan Pathan, 26, Asif Sheikh, 32, and Ajay Devipujak, 21. A fourth accused remains at large.
Confession and Additional Crimes
During interrogation, the trio allegedly confessed to committing multiple robberies over the same weekend. These include robbing a couple of Rs 700 near a canal after picking them up from Kadi, and stealing Rs 200 and a mobile phone from a passenger who boarded from Bopal. Separate cases have been registered at Anandnagar and Kerala GIDC police stations under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
The swift action by the Crime Branch has led to the recovery of stolen property and the arrest of three key suspects, while efforts are ongoing to capture the fourth accused. This case highlights the risks faced by cab drivers and the effectiveness of intelligence-led policing in urban areas.
