Ahmedabad Police Crack Down on Drug Trade with Dual Raids
In a significant crackdown on narcotics trafficking, the Ahmedabad Crime Branch apprehended two individuals on Monday, seizing a substantial quantity of mephedrone valued at approximately Rs 12.4 lakh. This operation underscores the city's intensified efforts to combat the illegal drug trade, which poses a severe threat to public health and safety.
Gheekanta Area Raid Leads to Mephedrone Seizure
Acting on precise intelligence, a patrol team from the crime branch conducted a targeted raid in the Gheekanta locality. The operation was centered opposite Navtad ni Pol, where authorities intercepted and arrested the suspects. The two men, identified as Malaram Devasi and Ashok Darji, were found in possession of 412 grams of mephedrone, a synthetic stimulant commonly known as "meow meow." Following their arrest, they were formally charged under the stringent provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, which carries severe penalties for drug-related offenses.
SOG Strikes in Bopal with Hybrid Ganja Bust
In a parallel development highlighting the widespread nature of drug activities, the Special Operations Group (SOG) of Ahmedabad Rural police executed a separate raid in the Bopal police station jurisdiction. Based on specific tip-offs, the SOG team moved swiftly to apprehend two individuals allegedly engaged in selling contraband. The suspects, Yash Chauhan, aged 27 from Vadaj, and Niraj Patel, aged 42 from Bhadaj, were caught with 245 grams of hybrid ganja, a potent form of cannabis, valued at Rs 8.57 lakh. Similar to the earlier case, both have been booked under the NDPS Act, emphasizing the legal repercussions for such illicit activities.
Implications and Police Strategy
These coordinated raids reflect a proactive approach by Ahmedabad law enforcement agencies to disrupt drug supply chains and deter potential offenders. The use of specific intelligence in both operations demonstrates the effectiveness of community policing and surveillance mechanisms. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to maintaining a zero-tolerance policy towards narcotics, urging citizens to report any suspicious activities to help curb this menace. The arrests serve as a stark warning to those involved in the drug trade, with ongoing investigations likely to uncover further links in these networks.
