Ahmedabad: Elderly Man Assaulted Outside Son's Shop

Retired Man Assaulted in Ahmedabad Following Cricket Ball Dispute

A 65-year-old retired man faced a violent assault with sticks and fists in Ahmedabad on Sunday afternoon. The incident occurred outside his son's grocery shop in the Ghatlodia area. Police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the matter.

Dispute Over Cricket Ball Escalates Quickly

The complainant, Ranchhodlal Mahajan, resides at Rajvi Opal Flats in Memnagar. He frequently visits his old house-cum-shop premises where renovation work is ongoing. His younger son, Abhishek, operates a kirana store at that location.

Around 2:30 PM, Mahajan was sitting at a table outside the shop. A cricket ball struck him during a children's game nearby. He politely asked the children to play elsewhere or with more caution. Police reports indicate one boy reacted with anger.

The youth allegedly accused the elderly man of using abusive language before leaving the spot. This initial confrontation set the stage for a more serious escalation moments later.

Violent Attack Involving Multiple Assailants

The boy returned shortly with a stick in hand. He struck Mahajan on the leg while shouting abuses. When the retired man tried to intervene and warned about complaining to family elders, the youth departed again.

He soon reappeared with his uncle, both carrying sticks. According to the FIR, the uncle threatened to kill Mahajan before hitting him with a stick. Both assailants then allegedly punched the elderly man repeatedly.

Neighbors heard Mahajan's cries and rushed to the scene. Their intervention stopped the assault. The location was near Laxminagar ni Chali, close to the Vadinath BRTS bus stand in Ghatlodia.

Medical Treatment and Police Action

The injured man immediately informed his son about the attack. His son rushed him to Sola Civil Hospital for urgent medical attention. After receiving necessary care, Mahajan approached Ghatlodia police station to file a formal complaint.

Police registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The charges include causing hurt along with other applicable provisions. Authorities have begun investigating the circumstances surrounding the assault.

This incident highlights concerns about public safety and dispute resolution in residential-commercial areas. The quick escalation from a minor disagreement to physical violence has raised questions about community interactions.
