Ahmedabad Police SOG Makes Major Drug Bust, Seizes 20kg Ganja
The Special Operations Group of the Ahmedabad city police executed a significant drug seizure on Saturday. Officers confiscated approximately 20 kilograms of ganja with an estimated street value of Rs 10 lakh. This operation led to the arrest of a woman from the Chharanagar area under the stringent Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
Routine Patrol Uncovers Suspicious Activity
The discovery occurred during standard patrolling duties in the Sardar Nagar-Chharanagar locality. A team from the SOG Crime Branch, led by unarmed PSI Ajaykumar Jabarmlal, noticed something unusual. They observed sealed parcels and black bags placed in the verandah of a residential house. This sight immediately raised their suspicions.
Acting swiftly, the patrolling team secured the location by cordoning off the area. They promptly informed their senior officers about the developing situation. The police then identified the woman residing at the house as Gita Minekar.
Legal Procedures Followed During Search
Before conducting the search, the police meticulously followed required legal protocols. They adhered to the provisions of Sections 42 and 50 of the NDPS Act. The search of the premises proceeded in the presence of two independent panch witnesses to ensure transparency and legal validity.
During the search, officers uncovered ten suspicious parcels. Each parcel was securely sealed with tape. For confirmation, a preliminary examination was conducted on the spot. Subsequently, an officer from the Forensic Science Laboratory performed tests. These tests definitively identified the substance as ganja.
Allegations of Family Involvement in Drug Trade
During police questioning, Gita Minekar reportedly provided details about the operation. She allegedly stated that she and her brother, Ganesh Indrekar, were actively involved in storing and selling the narcotic substance. According to her statement, the stock of ganja was relocated to her house after a specific incident.
Her brother, Ganesh Indrekar, had previously been detained by authorities at the Kalupur railway station. Following his detention, the remaining drug consignment was shifted to her residence for safekeeping. This revelation points to a broader family involvement in the illicit drug trade.
Case Registered Against Multiple Accused
The Ahmedabad police have officially registered a case under the NDPS Act. The charges name three individuals: Gita Minekar, her brother Ganesh Indrekar, and her daughter. This legal action underscores the seriousness with which authorities are treating this drug bust. The SOG's vigilance during a routine patrol has successfully disrupted a local drug distribution network, leading to a substantial seizure and multiple arrests.
