Ahmedabad Police Crack Murder Case in Hours Using CCTV Footage of Petrol Purchase
In a swift and efficient investigation, Ahmedabad police have solved a gruesome murder case within hours, with crucial evidence coming from CCTV footage of a petrol purchase. The case unfolded in the early hours of Tuesday when a patrolling team in Sarkhej discovered a body engulfed in flames at 4 AM.
Discovery of the Burning Body and Initial Investigation
The Sarkhej patrolling team was immediately put on high alert upon finding the burning body. Officers at the scene suspected that petrol had been used to set the victim on fire, given the intensity of the blaze. The body was completely charred and unidentifiable, presenting a significant challenge for investigators from the outset.
Police officials stated that initial findings strongly indicated the use of petrol or diesel as an accelerant. This led investigators to focus on nearby petrol pumps as potential sources of evidence. A senior police official explained that confirming the use of petrol was a critical first step in the investigation.
CCTV Footage Provides Breakthrough Evidence
The investigation took a decisive turn when police began scanning CCTV footage from the area. Officers discovered footage showing an individual purchasing petrol in a container, though the person's identity remained unknown at that point. This key visual evidence became the cornerstone of the case.
Zone VII Deputy Commissioner of Police Shivam Varma detailed how this lead was pursued: "We immediately began scanning CCTV footage and spotted a person purchasing petrol in a container. This key lead helped us make rapid progress in the investigation."
Identification and Arrest of the Accused
Using a combination of technical inputs, human intelligence, and careful analysis of the video footage, police were able to identify the suspects. The investigation revealed that the three men had deliberately avoided using mobile phones, knowing this could lead to tracking, which initially made the investigation more challenging.
Despite this obstacle, sustained human intelligence efforts enabled police to trace the trio as they attempted to flee Ahmedabad. The suspects were intercepted near Sarkhej Ujala Circle while traveling in an autorickshaw and were promptly detained.
The arrested individuals were identified as Jitendra Chunara, 35, a resident of Sarkhej; Jagdish Thakore, 24; and Deepal Raval, 21, both hailing from Kamod village in Daskroi. All three were arrested within hours based on evidence collected from the petrol pump footage and other investigative work.
Motive Behind the Murder
Police revealed that the victim was Javed Sipai, a resident of Sarkhej. According to Deputy Commissioner Varma, "The accused killed Sipai as they suspected he was a police informer and believed he had tipped off the police about an illegal liquor operation involving Chunara."
Investigators noted that a Prohibition Act case had previously been registered against Chunara in Matar, which appears to have contributed to the suspects' suspicion of Sipai. This background provided crucial context for understanding the motive behind the violent crime.
Coordinated Police Response
The successful resolution of this case involved coordinated efforts from multiple police teams. After confirming that petrol had been used to burn the body, police formed multiple investigative teams working in conjunction with the local crime branch and zone 7 authorities.
Senior officers emphasized that despite the suspects' attempts to avoid detection by not using mobile phones, the combination of CCTV evidence and human intelligence proved effective. The quick response and thorough investigation demonstrate the effectiveness of modern policing techniques in solving serious crimes.
This case highlights how surveillance technology, when combined with traditional investigative methods, can lead to rapid breakthroughs in criminal investigations, even when perpetrators take steps to avoid detection.
