Ahmedabad Angadia Firm Targeted in Rs 20 Lakh Scooter Theft
In a bold daylight robbery, unidentified thieves stole Rs 20 lakh belonging to an angadia firm in Ahmedabad on Tuesday afternoon. The incident occurred near Stadium Five Roads in Navrangpura, where the suspects allegedly broke open the storage compartment of a parked scooter after employing a clever diversion tactic to distract the employee.
Police Investigate Distraction Strategy
According to police reports, the suspects used a calculated ploy to divert the victim's attention before making off with the substantial cash amount. A complaint has been filed with Navrangpura police, who have registered a case of theft against unidentified persons and launched a comprehensive investigation into the matter.
Detailed Account of the Incident
The victim, identified as Ramesh Patel (64), a resident of Naroda, works with an angadia firm operating from the Trade Centre building near Stadium Five Roads. On Tuesday afternoon, his employer Suresh Patel instructed him to collect cash from a shop located on the first floor of Suvarnakala Complex near Punjabi Hall.
Patel reached the complex on his scooter and successfully collected Rs 20 lakh from the firm's client. He carefully placed the cash in a distinctive yellow cloth bag and secured it inside the scooter's storage compartment before returning to the Trade Centre building around 3:35 PM.
The Distraction and Discovery
As Patel was about to unlock his scooter, a biker wearing a chequered shirt and black helmet approached him and requested directions to the Income Tax area. After Patel provided the route explanation, the man departed from the spot. Moments later, Patel noticed something alarming - the scooter's storage compartment was slightly ajar.
Upon immediate inspection, he discovered the yellow bag containing the Rs 20 lakh cash was missing. Police investigators suspect that while one accused distracted the employee with the directions request, another accomplice simultaneously broke open the scooter's compartment using specialized tools and stole the valuable bag.
Aftermath and Investigation Progress
Patel promptly informed his employer about the theft, and together they reviewed nearby CCTV footage. The surveillance recordings revealed a man with his face covered by cloth walking away while carrying a yellow bag matching the description of the stolen item.
Navrangpura police have registered a formal case and are actively scanning CCTV footage from surrounding roads to trace the suspects. Investigators are pursuing multiple leads and examining the footage frame by frame to identify the perpetrators responsible for this calculated theft.
The incident has raised concerns about security measures for cash transportation in the area, particularly for angadia firms that handle substantial amounts of money. Police have advised businesses and individuals to exercise heightened caution when transporting valuable items and to implement additional security protocols.
