A young woman in Ahmedabad has come forward with harrowing allegations of repeated sexual assault by a man who initially sought to marry her, and later by his friend, in a case that highlights the brutal exploitation of trust and the use of intimidation to enforce silence.
The Betrayal of Trust and Initial Assault
According to the First Information Report (FIR) registered at Danilimda police station, the 24-year-old victim stated that her ordeal began with a man known to her family. The connection was established because her grandmother used to perform contractual work for him, making him a frequent visitor to their home in the same society.
The accused had formally approached her family with a marriage proposal, but the discussions eventually fell through due to unspecified social reasons. Despite this rejection, he allegedly continued to pursue the woman, falsely promising that marriage was still a possibility.
The first violent incident occurred when the accused invited her out under the pretext of discussing their future together. Instead of a genuine conversation, he took her to a hotel where, as per the complaint, he forced himself on her against her will. To ensure her compliance and silence, he immediately threatened to defame her if she ever revealed the assault.
A Cycle of Abuse and Intimidation
The nightmare did not end with that single incident. Approximately fifteen days later, the accused allegedly called the woman to a nearby mosque, again threatening social disgrace if she refused to meet him. From the mosque, he took her back to the same hotel and raped her once more, this time with a promise that he would not bother her again.
This promise was broken within just five days. He contacted her again and took her to the Sabarmati Riverfront, where he sexually assaulted her in a secluded, open area. The complaint details how the accused systematically used emotional manipulation and threats of defamation to coerce her into repeated meetings and subsequent assaults.
Introduction to a Second Accused and Further Crimes
The situation escalated terrifyingly when the first accused introduced the victim to his friend. This second man also allegedly sexually assaulted her. The woman told police that this friend threatened to leak her photographs online if she did not comply with his demands. He too raped her on the Sabarmati Riverfront, continuing the pattern of abuse at a public landmark.
Over several months, both men are accused of repeatedly raping the woman at a hotel and on the riverfront, using a combination of criminal intimidation and emotional blackmail to keep her trapped in the cycle of abuse and silent about her suffering.
Legal Action and Police Investigation
The woman's family eventually became aware of the horrific incidents and provided her with the crucial support needed to approach the authorities. With their backing, she filed a formal complaint with the Danilimda police.
An FIR has been registered under the new Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Specifically, the case has been filed under:
- Section 64(2)(M) for the grievous charge of repeated rape.
- Section 351(2) for criminal intimidation.
The police have confirmed that a thorough investigation is currently underway to bring the perpetrators to justice. This case has sent shockwaves through the local community and raised serious concerns about women's safety in Ahmedabad.
