A shocking daylight robbery has left a homemaker in Ahmedabad traumatized and poorer by a significant sum. The incident, involving a scooter-borne assailant, occurred in a prominent area of the city, highlighting concerns over street crime.
Details of the Daylight Snatching
On Wednesday evening, a 49-year-old homemaker from Ghatlodia became the victim of a brazen robbery. The woman was on her way to Thaltej to deliver Rs 40,000 intended for household expenses to a relative. She had placed the cash along with her blue iPhone 14, valued at approximately Rs 55,000, inside her purse before leaving her home on her two-wheeler around 4:45 PM.
The situation turned dangerous near the upscale Palladium Mall. At around 5 PM, as she navigated the lane behind the mall and approached Gate No. 6, an unidentified man on a Honda Activa scooter targeted her. The robber came from behind and forcefully pulled the purse from her shoulder. The violent tug was so sudden and strong that it caused the victim to lose her balance and fall off her own vehicle.
Police Investigation and Victim's Ordeal
The fall resulted in a minor injury to the woman's right shoulder. The accused, described as a man aged between 25 to 30 years wearing a saffron-coloured T-shirt, did not stop. He sped away with the purse, which contained items totalling Rs 95,000, towards a nearby residential area.
Shaken and in distress, the victim used a passer-by's mobile phone to inform her brother about the harrowing incident before returning home. Due to the shock, she could not file a police complaint immediately. She approached the Vastrapur police station later, where officials registered a formal case of robbery.
Ongoing Search for the Suspect
Law enforcement has now launched a thorough investigation into the snatching. Officers from the Vastrapur police station are actively scanning CCTV footage from the vicinity of Palladium Mall and the escape route to identify the suspect and his vehicle. The case underscores the need for public vigilance, especially when carrying valuable items in busy urban areas.
This incident serves as a stark reminder for citizens to be cautious. Police advise people to be aware of their surroundings, avoid displaying valuables openly, and report any suspicious activity immediately to help prevent such crimes.
