Three Women Nabbed for Major Copper Theft in Ahmedabad

In a swift police operation, three women were arrested in Ahmedabad's Sarkhej area for allegedly stealing copper plumbing valves valued at Rs 6.1 lakh from an under-construction building. The theft occurred in the early hours of Thursday, with police recovering all 229 stolen valves within hours of the crime.

How the Copper Valve Heist Unfolded

According to Sarkhej police officials, the accused women targeted the storeroom of the construction site by breaking the lock and making off with the valuable copper components. The theft was discovered on Thursday morning when site workers noticed the broken lock and missing inventory.

Police immediately launched an investigation, combining local intelligence gathering with CCTV footage analysis from surrounding areas. This quick investigative work led them to three women residing in makeshift settlements near the Makarba railway crossing.

Swift Recovery and Arrests

In a significant breakthrough, Sarkhej police managed to recover all 229 stolen valves worth the complete Rs 6.1 lakh from the possession of the accused. The women, who reportedly work in the scrap trade, were taken into custody following the recovery.

Police investigations revealed that one of the accused has a previous theft case registered against her at the Naranpura police station, indicating possible prior involvement in similar activities.

The three accused now face charges under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) related to break-in and theft. The case highlights growing concerns about theft of valuable construction materials from sites across the city.
