A tragic late-night accident in Ahmedabad claimed the life of a young man after his speeding motorcycle violently collided with the metal grill of a Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) track. The incident occurred near the GMDC ground on Monday night, according to city traffic police officials.
Details of the Fatal Collision
The impact of the crash was described as extremely brutal. The force was so severe that it severed one of the rider's hands from his body. Officers from the A Division traffic police reported that the biker was travelling at a very high speed when he lost control of his vehicle. The motorcycle then swerved directly into the BRTS corridor, resulting in a head-on collision with the protective grill.
The young man, believed to be in his twenties, succumbed to multiple injuries on the spot. He was not carrying any identification documents at the time, leaving authorities to work on establishing his identity. The A Division traffic police team reached the accident site within minutes to begin legal procedures. The victim's body was sent for a postmortem examination, and the motorcycle involved was seized.
Police Investigation Points to Illegal Racing
Initial investigations have led police to suspect that the deceased may have been involved in an illegal street race at the time of the accident. An officer stated that they believe other riders were racing on that stretch around the same time. To verify this and identify potential others involved, authorities are scrutinising CCTV footage from nearby junctions and BRTS cameras.
Officials drew a parallel between this incident and a similar case earlier this year in Surat. In that event, a youth riding at high speed on the Athwalines stretch crashed into a divider during a suspected late-night race, suffering fatal injuries. Following that accident, police had intensified drives against illegal racing gangs.
A Pattern of High-Speed Tragedies
This accident in Ahmedabad follows another deeply disturbing high-speed crash just a couple of days prior in Surat. In that incident, 18-year-old social media influencer Prince Patel died after his high-performance KTM bike crashed into a divider near Bread Liner Circle. Patel, who had posted a reel about death and heaven two days before the crash, was descending the Bread Liner bridge at high speed when he lost control. The collision caused fatal dismemberment.
The back-to-back tragedies have highlighted the grave dangers of speeding and illegal racing on city roads, prompting concerns from law enforcement and the public alike.
