The AIIMS Delhi final report submitted to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has confirmed the presence of skin tissue on the gym belt seized in connection with the death of Twisha Sharma, according to officials familiar with the development on Sunday.
Key Finding in the Forensic Report
The report by the second medical board, comprising experts from AIIMS Delhi, concluded that the skin tissue found on the belt matched Twisha Sharma's biological profile. The belt was seized by police and later sent for forensic examination to the medical board.
Twisha Sharma, a 22-year-old fitness enthusiast, died under suspicious circumstances in Delhi earlier this year. Her family alleged foul play, claiming she was murdered and the death was staged as a gym accident.
Investigation Timeline
Police initially registered a case of unnatural death but later converted it to a murder investigation following the family's complaint. The gym belt was recovered from the scene and submitted to AIIMS Delhi for analysis. The first medical board had inconclusive findings, prompting the formation of a second board.
According to a senior CBI officer, “The AIIMS report is a crucial piece of evidence. It corroborates the family's suspicion that the belt was used in the crime.” The officer added that the investigation is now focused on identifying the perpetrator.
Legal and Family Response
Twisha's father, Rajesh Sharma, said, “We are relieved that the truth is coming out. We demand justice for our daughter.” The CBI has summoned several individuals for questioning, including the gym owner and staff.
The case has drawn widespread attention, with activists calling for stricter safety measures in fitness centers. The CBI is expected to file a chargesheet soon based on the forensic evidence.
