A designated special court for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in Ajmer on Thursday sentenced a man to life imprisonment for the murder of his wife. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on the convict, identified as Rizwan, a resident of Allahabad, for killing his wife Shahina.
Background of the Case
The court found that the accused had harassed his wife for dowry and subsequently killed her. Government prosecutor Pankaj Jain stated that the case was based on a complaint filed on April 27, 2021, by Shahida, the victim's mother and a resident of West Bengal, at the Ganj police station.
According to the complainant, her daughter Shahina was married to Rizwan, and the couple had a 13-month-old daughter. Rizwan moved to Ajmer for work along with his wife, and Shahida had also moved in with them.
Details of the Incident
Shahida alleged that Rizwan harassed her daughter demanding dowry, and on April 26, 2021, Rizwan had a fight with Shahina over the same issue. That day, when Shahida returned from work, she found her daughter lying in a pool of blood inside the room. Although Shahina was rushed to the hospital, doctors declared her brought dead. Rizwan had fled the spot with their daughter following the incident, Shahida said.
Investigation and Trial
Police arrested Rizwan on May 1, 2021, and submitted a charge sheet against him in court. During the trial, the prosecution produced 13 witnesses, 47 documents, and 11 articles. It was found that Rizwan had blood stains on his shirt when he came out of the house on the day of the incident, which was captured by CCTV cameras in the area.
