Ajmer Tragedy: Mother's Harrowing Account of Three Children Drowning in Water Tank
In a devastating incident that has shaken the Baswani village community in Nagaur district, police have revealed the heartbreaking details of how three young children lost their lives in a water tank accident. The tragedy unfolded on Friday evening, leaving a family shattered and a community in mourning.
The Tragic Sequence of Events
According to police statements released on Sunday, 25-year-old Manju provided investigators with a chilling account of the events that led to the deaths of her three children. The mother described how her 4-year-old daughter Gunjan accidentally slipped into the water tank during evening playtime.
"Seeing my daughter drowning, I immediately jumped into the tank to save her," Manju told police during her statement at the district hospital. "There was approximately five feet of water in the tank, and I was desperately trying to reach Gunjan, but I don't know how to swim."
The situation quickly escalated from a single child in danger to a complete family tragedy. Police reports indicate that after Manju jumped into the water tank, her other two children followed her into the dangerous situation. Her 5-year-old daughter Anushka and 1-year-old son Rudra entered the tank, apparently trying to help or follow their mother.
A Mother's Desperate Struggle
Manju's statement to investigators paints a picture of frantic struggle and ultimate helplessness. "My breathing went completely out of control as I tried to save Gunjan," she recounted. "I eventually fainted in the water, completely overwhelmed by the situation."
When she regained consciousness after an undetermined amount of time, the mother faced the unimaginable horror of discovering all three of her children had perished. "I found the bodies of all my three children floating in the tank," she told police through constant weeping during her hospital statement.
Aftermath and Investigation
Police officials confirmed that Manju was pulled from the water tank in critical condition and immediately transported to the district hospital, where she was admitted on Friday night. Considering her severe mental and emotional state following the tragedy, medical authorities made the difficult decision to shift her to the hospital's prisoner cell for closer observation and care.
The family's tragedy continued to unfold on Saturday evening when Manju's husband, Ram Prasad Meghwal, performed the last rites for his three children. Meghwal had been working in Kota when he received the devastating news. "I was told to return to our native village because my children were ill," he explained. "When I reached the village on Saturday, I discovered the heartbreaking truth that all three of my children had died."
Community Impact and Safety Concerns
This tragic incident has raised serious questions about water safety in rural areas, particularly regarding the security of water storage facilities. The five-foot water level in the tank proved fatal for the young children, highlighting the need for increased safety measures around such common village structures.
Local authorities have initiated a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident, examining the water tank's location, accessibility, and any potential safety violations. The tragedy serves as a sobering reminder of how quickly ordinary situations can turn catastrophic, especially when young children are involved.
The Baswani village community has come together to support the grieving family, with neighbors and relatives providing emotional and practical assistance during this unimaginably difficult time. The incident has left an indelible mark on the Nagaur district, prompting discussions about child safety and preventive measures that could help avoid similar tragedies in the future.
