Akola Police Crack Down on Drug Trafficking with Major Ganja Seizure
In a significant anti-narcotics operation, the Ramdaspeth police in Akola have successfully seized a substantial quantity of ganja and apprehended three individuals from a neighboring district. The action, part of the ongoing Operation Prahar, underscores the authorities' intensified efforts to combat drug-related activities in the region.
Details of the Seizure and Arrests
On Thursday, law enforcement officials confiscated 11.835 kilograms of ganja and arrested three young men near the railway station area in Akola. The total recovery from the operation, which included two mobile phones, amounted to Rs 3.21 lakh. The arrested accused have been identified as Gaurav Vijay Ingle (21), Rahul Balasaheb Deshmukh (22), and Devanand Gajanan Shelke (23), all residents of Dongav in Mehkar taluka of Buldhana district.
Execution of the Operation
The operation was initiated after Police Inspector Shirish Khandare received credible intelligence about a group planning to deliver ganja in two bags at the railway station vicinity. Acting swiftly, a police team, under the guidance of Superintendent of Police Archit Chandak, set up a trap near the chief health inspector's building at the railway station square. The suspects were intercepted and taken into custody for questioning, during which the large quantity of ganja was discovered in their possession.
Legal Proceedings and Investigation
A case has been registered at the Ramdaspeth police station under relevant sections of the NDPS Act, specifically Sections 8(c) and 20(b). Further investigation is currently underway to determine the source of the contraband and its intended distribution network. This probe aims to dismantle any broader drug trafficking operations linked to this seizure.
Supervision and Team Involvement
The operation was carried out under the supervision of senior officials, including Additional Superintendent of Police BP Reddy and Sub-Divisional Police Officer Sudarshan Patil. The police team comprised sub-inspectors Nilesh Gaikwad and Pradeep Jogdand, along with other police personnel and members of the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) from Amravati. Their coordinated efforts highlight the multi-agency approach in tackling narcotics crimes.
This successful bust is part of a broader crackdown on drug trafficking in Maharashtra, with Operation Prahar demonstrating the police's commitment to curbing illegal activities and ensuring public safety. Authorities continue to urge citizens to report any suspicious behavior to help in such endeavors.
