Amit Shah Confirms Detention Centres in Bengal, Vows Crackdown

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has confirmed that detention centres will be established in West Bengal as part of a crackdown on illegal infiltrators. Speaking in Gujarat, Shah stated that under a BJP government, illegal Bangladeshi immigrants in the state would not face legal cases if they voluntarily returned to their country.

Accusations Against Mamata Banerjee Government

Shah accused the previous Mamata Banerjee-led government of allowing unchecked infiltration into West Bengal. He reiterated the central government's commitment to identifying and deporting illegal immigrants, emphasizing that the BJP would not tolerate any form of illegal immigration.

Border Fencing and Demographic Changes

The Home Minister also highlighted land transfers for border fencing along the India-Bangladesh border. He announced the formation of a high-powered committee to examine demographic changes in the region, which he claimed were a result of unchecked infiltration over the years.

Shah further claimed that the BJP governs nearly 80 percent of India's geographical area. He paid tribute to Veer Savarkar during his speech, underscoring the party's ideological commitment to national security.

The announcement has sparked political reactions, with opposition parties criticizing the move as divisive. However, the BJP maintains that the measures are necessary to protect national security and demographic balance.
