A violent dispute at a marriage palace on the outskirts of Amritsar turned fatal on Wednesday, resulting in the death of one man and leaving his brother in critical condition after a point-blank shooting. The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community and prompted a major police manhunt.
Dispute Turns Deadly at Marriage Palace
According to the Amritsar Rural Police, the tragedy unfolded in Bal Kalan village when a group of local youths gathered to resolve a conflict that had been simmering for six days. What began as a verbal altercation took a horrific turn when one side allegedly produced a pistol and opened fire without warning.
The victims have been identified as two brothers: Simranjit Singh and Kabal Singh. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Suhail Qasim Mir stated that Simranjit sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the chest, while Kabal was hit in the leg.
Chaos and Rush to Hospital
The sound of gunshots, estimated to be around five rounds, caused immediate panic in the area. Terrified locals quickly intervened, rushing the critically injured brothers to Guru Nanak Dev Hospital in Amritsar for emergency treatment. Despite efforts, doctors declared Simranjit Singh dead on arrival. His brother, Kabal Singh, was admitted in a serious condition.
In his statement to the police, Kabal Singh revealed that he and his brother had arrived at the venue with friends and were completely unaware that the other party was armed. He alleged that after a minor exchange of words, two individuals suddenly started shooting.
Police Launch Manhunt for Eight Accused
SSP Suhail Qasim Mir confirmed that the police have swiftly identified eight individuals in connection with the shooting. The accused have been named as:

- Sandeep
- Harpreet
- Shiv Dana
- Shiv Preet
- Vishal
- Vikramjit
- Venue
Police teams have been deployed across the district to apprehend the suspects. The investigation is ongoing to determine the exact motive behind the initial dispute and the subsequent use of lethal force.
