The Amritsar police have arrested two individuals in connection with an attempt to murder case, recovering a pistol from their possession. The arrested suspects have been identified as Gurpreet Singh and Harpreet Singh, both residents of Amritsar. According to police officials, the duo was involved in a violent incident that took place in the Ranjit Avenue area earlier this week.
Details of the Incident
The incident occurred on Monday when the accused allegedly opened fire at a person named Sukhwinder Singh. The victim sustained injuries and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment. Police sources confirmed that the victim's condition is stable.
Police Action and Investigation
Upon receiving a complaint, the police registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Arms Act. A special team was formed to track down the suspects. The team, led by Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Ranjit Singh, conducted raids at multiple locations and finally apprehended the accused from a hideout in the Majitha area.
During interrogation, the accused confessed to their involvement in the crime. They revealed that a personal rivalry led to the attack. The police recovered a country-made pistol along with live cartridges from their possession. The weapon has been sent for forensic examination.
Legal Proceedings
The accused were produced before a local court on Wednesday, which remanded them to police custody for further investigation. The police are also probing if the accused have any prior criminal record. Authorities have assured that strict action will be taken against them to ensure justice for the victim.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Amritsar, Dr. S. S. Sandhu, praised the team for their swift action. He urged citizens to report any suspicious activities to the police and assured that the district police are committed to maintaining law and order.
The arrest has brought relief to the local residents, who were concerned about the rising crime rate in the area. The police have increased patrolling and surveillance in the vicinity to prevent any further incidents.
