Amritsar Police Dismantle Major International Drug and Arms Supply Network
In a significant crackdown on organized crime, the Amritsar commissionerate police have successfully apprehended five key suspects involved in a sophisticated cross-border narcotics and arms trafficking operation. The arrests, announced by Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar on Tuesday, mark a crucial victory in the fight against international criminal networks operating in the region.
High-Value Seizures and Arrest Details
The operation resulted in the seizure of substantial quantities of high-value narcotics and illegal firearms. Police recovered 523 grams of methamphetamine, commonly known as ICE, along with two sophisticated Glock 9mm pistols. The arrested individuals have been identified as Satnam Singh, Raman, Chirag, Rishabh, and Vaibhav.
Commissioner Bhullar emphasized the commercial scale of the operation, noting that the seized methamphetamine carries a market value nearly five times higher than heroin. This detail underscores the significant financial stakes and serious threat posed by this criminal enterprise to public safety and security.
International Connections and Operational Details
Investigations revealed that the network was highly organized with international connections. According to police officials, the operation was coordinated by an Australia-based handler who managed supplies through encrypted communication channels. This international dimension highlights the complex nature of modern cross-border crime and the challenges faced by law enforcement agencies.
The successful operation was conducted by a specialized police team led by DCP (Detective) Ravinderpal Singh, with support from ADCP Vishaljit Singh, ACP Central Jaspal Singh, and SHO of Gate Hakima Police Station Manjit Kaur. Their coordinated efforts were instrumental in dismantling this dangerous network.
Legal Proceedings and Ongoing Investigation
An FIR has been registered at Gate Hakima police station in Amritsar under various sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and the Arms Act. The legal action reflects the seriousness of the offenses and ensures that the accused will face appropriate judicial proceedings.
Police authorities have indicated that the investigation remains active as they work to uncover additional connections and potentially identify other individuals involved in this extensive criminal network. The operation demonstrates the commitment of Amritsar police to combating organized crime and maintaining law and order in the region.
