Amritsar Police Busts ISI-Sponsored Terror and Arms Smuggling Module
In a significant breakthrough, the Amritsar Rural police on Saturday claimed to have dismantled an ISI-sponsored terror and cross-border arms smuggling module. The operation led to the arrest of two individuals and the recovery of four sophisticated weapons, including an AK-47 rifle with two magazines and 36 live cartridges.
Arrests and Recoveries in Anti-Terror Operation
The arrested accused have been identified as Gursevak Singh alias Suraj, a resident of New Abadi in Attari, Amritsar, and Amarjit Singh alias Rohit, a resident of Subhash Road in Chheharta, Amritsar. According to Gaurav Yadav, the Director General of Police, the police teams recovered the AK-47 rifle along with three 9MM Glock pistols from the possession of the arrested individuals.
This module was not only involved in arms smuggling but also engaged in radicalisation activities, spreading anti-India and anti-police narratives, as highlighted by the DGP. The investigation is ongoing to establish forward and backward linkages in the case.
Secret Operation and Weapon Consignment Details
Suhail Qasim Mir, the Senior Superintendent of Police, revealed that acting on secret information, teams from the Gharinda police station arrested the two suspects from village Muhawa. During the search, they recovered a weapon consignment comprising an AK-47 along with ammunition and three Glock pistols.
The probe indicated that the consignment of weapons was sent by foreign handlers via the Pakistan route, intended for carrying out terrorist activities in Punjab. A case, FIR No 80 dated March 12, 2026, has been registered under Sections 25(1)(A), 25(6), 25(7), and 25(8) of the Arms Act and Sections 13, 16, and 18 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act against the arrested accused at the Gharinda police station.
This bust underscores the ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to combat cross-border terrorism and arms smuggling networks in the region.
