Amroha Police Officer Suspended Over Extortion and Illegal Detention Case
The station house officer (SHO) of Rahra police station in Amroha district has been suspended following serious allegations of illegal detention and mishandling of an extortion case linked to a false rape accusation. The action was taken on Saturday after a thorough investigation into the matter.
Complaint Details and Allegations
The case originated from a complaint filed on Thursday by Ramdas, a laborer from Parora village. According to the complaint, Jitendra, a farmer, along with a woman who works as a laborer for him, and an associate, threatened to implicate Ramdas in a false rape case. The complaint detailed that Ramdas was picked up by police on March 20 and allegedly detained for over 24 hours without proper legal grounds.
Ramdas further claimed that he was released only after being forced to pay Rs 1.35 lakh to Jitendra under the guise of a "settlement." This alleged extortion formed the core of the complaint that triggered the subsequent investigation.
Investigation Findings
Following the complaint, an inquiry was conducted by the circle officer of Hasanpur. The probe revealed significant inconsistencies in the woman's statements. She had initially accused another man of rape on March 12, but named Ramdas as the accused the following day, raising questions about the veracity of the allegations.
The investigation also substantiated the allegations of extortion raised by the complainant. The inquiry findings pointed to serious misconduct in how the case was handled by police officials.
Official Action Taken
Taking note of the investigation findings, superintendent of police Amit Kumar Anand ordered decisive action against the erring officials. "A case is being registered against both the woman and Jitendra. SHO Brijesh Kumar has been suspended and departmental proceedings have been initiated against him," he stated.
The suspension of the police officer represents a significant administrative action in response to the allegations of misconduct. The case highlights concerns about police procedures and the handling of sensitive cases involving allegations of sexual assault and extortion.
The departmental proceedings against the suspended officer will determine further disciplinary action based on the established facts of the case. The registration of cases against the alleged perpetrators indicates that legal proceedings will continue to address the original complaint of extortion and false accusation.
