In a significant breakthrough, the Anantapur police have successfully arrested two interstate criminals involved in a spree of thefts and recovered stolen property worth a staggering Rs 70 lakh. The accused, hailing from Karnataka, were apprehended following a sharp increase in chain-snatching incidents in the region.
Duo Arrested Following Intensive Surveillance
The operation was led by the Anantapur III town police in coordination with the Crime and Cyber Security (CCS) sleuths. Acting on intelligence about a sudden spike in chain-snatching cases, the teams meticulously tracked the movements of the suspects. Their vigilance paid off on Saturday when the police arrested the two men near the Bellary Road Circle in Anantapur.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Yadavalli Manju (25) and P Ramdas (24), both residents of Bellary in Karnataka. According to Anantapur Superintendent of Police P Jagadeesh, the duo was deeply addicted to vices and had accumulated substantial debts. To fund their lavish lifestyle and repay these debts, they turned to a life of crime.
A Trail of Crimes Across Districts
Investigations revealed that the pair was involved in a wide range of criminal activities, including chain-snatching, bag lifting, and house break-ins. Their crime spree was not confined to a single district. Police have connected them to 9 registered cases in Anantapur district alone. Furthermore, they are suspects in approximately 6 additional cases in Bellary and Guntur districts, bringing their total alleged involvement to around 15 cases.
The recovery made from the accused underscores the scale of their operations. The police seized a significant haul of valuables, including:
- Gold ornaments weighing 400 grams
- Silver articles weighing 7 kilograms
- Cash amounting to Rs 1 lakh
- A motorcycle used in the crimes
Police Crackdown Sends Strong Message
The successful arrest and recovery have been hailed as a major achievement for the Anantapur police. This operation not only brings relief to the victims across multiple districts but also sends a strong warning to interstate criminal gangs operating in the region. The police have demonstrated effective coordination and proactive investigation techniques in cracking down on organized theft.
The accused are currently in police custody and are being questioned for further details about their network and other possible accomplices. The recovery of such a high value of property is expected to help return stolen goods to their rightful owners and strengthen the cases against the offenders in court.
