Andhra Pradesh's Mega Cycling Expedition Against Drugs Begins
The Elite Anti-Narcotics Group for Law Enforcement (EAGLE), in collaboration with the Tirupati district police, initiated a significant cycling expedition named "Cycle Yatra – Dandi March 2.0" on Monday. This event, starting from Tirupati and heading towards Visakhapatnam, is a key initiative aimed at fostering a drug-free Andhra Pradesh.
Inaugural Event Highlights Public Engagement
At the launch ceremony held at the SV Auditorium, IG Ake Ravi Krishna participated virtually and emphasized the critical role of public involvement in creating a society free from narcotics. He stated, "Inspired by the historic Dandi March, this modern '2.0' version is a cycling relay from Tirupati to Visakhapatnam. It is part of the state government's mission to promote the slogan 'Drugs Vaddu Bro' (Say No to Drugs), safeguarding the future of the younger generation."
Officials Address the Narcotics Threat
District collector Dr. S Venkateshwar pointed out that narcotics have caused severe damage to numerous nations. He highlighted the establishment of the elite EAGLE team, led by senior IPS officers, to combat drug cultivation and supply, particularly in forest fringe areas.
SP L Subbarayudu warned about the dangers of drug use, noting that it often starts as a minor habit but can lead to personal ruin and legal consequences. He encouraged citizens to report any illegal activities through the toll-free number 1972 or the district police WhatsApp, with assurances of confidentiality.
Mass Participation in the Cycling Relay
Thousands of students from various universities and colleges, alongside police personnel, joined the cycling relay. They pedaled from Tirupati to mark the statewide launch of this anti-drug campaign, demonstrating a united front against narcotics.
This initiative underscores the government's commitment to raising awareness and mobilizing communities in the fight against drug abuse.
