Anmol Bishnoi Files Plea for Surrender in Salman Khan Residence Firing Case
Gangster Anmol Bishnoi, currently incarcerated in Delhi’s Tihar Jail, has filed a plea before a special court in Mumbai seeking to surrender in the 2024 Salman Khan residence firing case. In his application, Bishnoi stated that his surrender is "in the interest of a fair trial and justice." The plea was submitted to the special MCOCA court, which oversees cases under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act.
Background: Deportation and Arrest
Anmol Bishnoi, the younger brother of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, was deported from the United States in November 2024. Upon arrival, he was arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in connection with multiple high-profile cases. He is a wanted accused in the Salman Khan residence firing case, which is being investigated by the Mumbai Police.
Key Arguments in the Plea
In the plea, Anmol Bishnoi expressed his intention to voluntarily surrender before the court to "face the ongoing trial and join the judicial proceedings in the interest of fair trial and further in the interest of justice." He noted that he is already under the "physical control of law in another (NIA) matter" and cannot physically appear without a court order. He urged the court to issue a production warrant to Tihar Jail to facilitate his appearance, either physically or via video conferencing, for remand proceedings.
Bishnoi argued that his surrender would cause "no prejudice to prosecution" and would instead "expedite trial and legal proceedings and further prevent misuse of process of law." The application highlighted that the trial has already begun, with three witnesses examined in his absence.
Details of the Firing Incident
The firing incident occurred on April 14, 2024, outside Salman Khan's Galaxy Apartment in Bandra, Mumbai. Two bike-borne individuals, Vicky Gupta and Sagar Pal, carried out the attack. Other accused in the case include Sonukumar Bishnoi, Mohd Rafiq Choudhary, and Harpal Singh, all of whom are currently in judicial custody. One accused, Anujkumar Thapan, died by suicide while in police custody. Lawrence Bishnoi is also a wanted accused in the case.
Current Status of the Case
The trial is ongoing, and the court has yet to rule on Anmol Bishnoi’s plea. The Mumbai Police continue to investigate the case, which has drawn significant media attention due to the involvement of high-profile individuals. Anmol Bishnoi’s surrender could potentially expedite the proceedings, as he seeks to participate in the trial from Tihar Jail.
