A distressing incident of armed robbery occurred in Aurangabad on Tuesday night, when a jeweller was assaulted and looted of cash and gold ornaments valued at approximately Rs 17.4 lakh. The crime took place near Police Line Road, just a few hundred metres from the district police headquarters, raising serious concerns about security in the vicinity.
Details of the Incident
The victim, Devendra Prasad Soni, owner of Khushi Jewellers, was returning to his residence in Shahpur locality after closing his shop for the day. According to police reports, five armed individuals on two motorcycles intercepted his vehicle. The assailants were armed with sharp-edged weapons and attacked Soni, causing severe injuries to his face and other body parts. During the assault, they snatched his bag, which contained around Rs 2.40 lakh in cash and gold ornaments worth nearly Rs 15 lakh.
Police Response and Investigation
Upon receiving an alert, police personnel quickly arrived at the scene and transported the injured businessman to a nearby hospital. Medical professionals have stated that Soni's condition is stable and he is out of danger. An FIR has been registered, and a thorough investigation is underway.
Superintendent of Police Ambrish Rahul confirmed, "A case has been registered, and a special team has been formed to trace the accused. Raids are being conducted at various locations, and efforts are on to identify and arrest those involved." The proximity of the crime to the police headquarters has prompted authorities to review security measures in the area.
