Armed Gang Attempts Factory Robbery in Mohali, Injures Patrol Member

In a brazen late-night incident, a group of nearly 12 miscreants attempted to rob a factory at the Bhagwanpur Industrial Area on Barwala Road in Derabassi, Mohali, on Thursday night. The assailants held security guards hostage, injured a member of a private patrolling team, and escaped with a motorcycle and mobile phones, escalating security concerns in the industrial belt.

Details of the Robbery Attempt

The incident unfolded around 12:30 am at a factory unit manufacturing CP fittings. According to sources, the accused, armed with sharp-edged weapons, allegedly entered the premises by climbing a tree. Once inside, they held security guard Sher Singh and helper Deepak Sahu hostage at gunpoint, snatched the factory keys, and allowed other accomplices waiting outside to enter through the main gate.

Aman Kumar and Lakhwinder, members of the Industries Association's private night patrolling team, noticed the factory gate open at an unusual hour and came to investigate. The miscreants allegedly attacked them, injuring Aman Kumar, before locking both patrol members inside a room. Before fleeing, the suspects stole the patrol team's new motorcycle and two mobile phones belonging to the victims.

Police Investigation and Evidence

Station House Officer (SHO), Inspector Sumit Mor, confirmed that a case of attempted robbery and theft has been registered against unidentified persons, and an investigation is underway. Police teams are examining CCTV footage from the area to identify the accused and trace their movements. Preliminary information indicates that the accused covered their faces and were reportedly barefoot during the incident. Their Bolero jeep, without a number plate, was allegedly parked in nearby fields.

The victims claimed that the suspects threatened them with a pistol and fired shots during the robbery attempt. However, police officials stated that no empty cartridges or other evidence of firing was found at the spot. Whether the weapon used was real or fake will be confirmed during the ongoing investigation.

Rising Security Concerns in the Area

This incident marks the fourth such reported case from the Bhagwanpur Industrial Area in recent months. Previous thefts worth lakhs of rupees were reported on October 13 and January 20, raising significant concerns among industrialists about the security situation in the industrial belt. The repeated occurrences highlight vulnerabilities that need urgent attention from law enforcement and local authorities.

As the investigation progresses, police are urging witnesses and anyone with information to come forward to help apprehend the culprits and prevent future incidents.
