RANCHI: An armed man wanted in connection with the murder of a land dealer was arrested following a gunfight with police in Jharkhand's Ranchi district on Wednesday. The incident occurred around 7:30 am in the Pandra outpost area.
Accused Injured in Encounter
The accused, identified as Satyam Pathak (35), sustained bullet injuries to both legs during the exchange of fire. An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) was also injured in the incident and has been hospitalized.
Involvement in Land Dealer's Murder
According to police, Pathak was involved in the killing of 40-year-old Bhargav Singh, a land dealer and construction company owner, who was shot dead near OTC Ground on Tuesday. The main accused in the case, Vijay Tete, was arrested shortly after the murder.
Ranchi SSP Rakesh Ranjan stated, "Pathak was involved in the murder of the 40-year-old Bhargav Singh. When a police team went to arrest him following a tip-off, he tried to escape after snatching a weapon from security personnel."
Previous Criminal Record
Police revealed that Pathak was also wanted in several other criminal cases. During the arrest operation, two weapons were recovered from his possession, according to Ranchi (City) SP Paras Rana.
Land Dispute Motive
Officials added that the murder was linked to an ongoing land dispute. The investigation is ongoing, and further details are expected to emerge as the case progresses.
