A 40-year-old assistant sub-inspector was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly raping a minor girl, filming obscene videos, and blackmailing her for the past nine years in Gumla district, police said on Wednesday.
The Incident
The assault took place in 2017 when the girl was aged 16. It came to light recently after a purported video went viral on social media on Sunday. The accused ASI was arrested from Ranchi after the survivor lodged a complaint in Gumla on Monday.
Police said the accused was then a constable at a remote police station in Gumla district. Officer Ankita Kumari said that Paswan came in contact with the girl after securing an insurance policy from her mother and began visiting their house frequently.
He later started speaking to the girl regularly over the phone, lured her through deception, and took her to a hotel room, where he allegedly raped her and recorded obscene videos.
Continued Harassment
Police said that Paswan, later promoted to ASI, remained in contact with the survivor and continued blackmailing and intimidating her using the clips. He also allegedly tried to create obstacles in her marriage.
Legal Action
A case has been registered against the accused under relevant sections of the Pocso Act, Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and the IT Act, police said.
