ASI Gurnam Singh Named in Heroin Case After Constable's Arrest
Muktsar Sadar police have named Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Gurnam Singh, the in-charge of the Ghubaya police post in Fazilka district, in connection with a heroin recovery case. The development follows the arrest of a senior constable posted at the same police post and two other individuals on Saturday night.
The police recovered 280 grams of heroin from the accused near Badhai village on the Jalalabad Road. Additionally, a licensed revolver, five live cartridges, and a car were seized from their possession.
ASI Absent Since Sunday Without Intimation
ASI Gurnam Singh has not been arrested yet and has reportedly been absent from duty since Sunday without informing his seniors. Jalalabad DSP Gursewak Singh stated, “ASI Gurnam Singh has been absent from duty since Sunday without any intimation. We have given the additional charge of the police post to a head constable and are awaiting formal information regarding his nomination in the case to take further action.”
The Fazilka district police have handed over the additional charge of the Ghubaya police post to head constable Abhishek Sharma.
Suspensions and Investigation
Both ASI Gurnam Singh and senior constable Joginder Singh have been suspended. Fazilka SSP Gagan Ajit Singh said, “Joginder Singh was suspended immediately after his arrest, while Gurnam Singh was suspended after his alleged involvement surfaced during the investigation.”
Muktsar SSP Abhimanyu Rana earlier stated that the arrested head constable was among those who had come to sell the heroin. A case under the NDPS Act and the Arms Act has been registered at the Muktsar Sadar police station.
Police Probing Drug Trafficking Network
The police are investigating the source of the contraband and the possible involvement of other persons linked to the alleged drug trafficking network. The recovery of a licensed revolver and live cartridges alongside the heroin suggests a nexus between drug peddling and illegal arms possession.
